When my husband was laid off last year, we were struggling to make ends meet. The entire lower level of our home was unused, so after we saw a report on 60 minutes about Airbnb, we decided to give it a try. Within 24 hours of posting our listing, we had our first guest from Switzerland. We have been busy ever since - and we have continued to host on Airbnb even after my husband got a full time job. We have met so many wonderful and interesting people - it has been amazing to make new friends from all over the world! The majority of guests we host are young, fresh out of college, who are looking for work and a place to lay down their roots. They don't have a lot of money to spend on expensive hotels and they don't want to spend their money in that fashion. They would prefer to spend their money by going to restaurants & supporting local businesses. Airbnb isn't for everyone, but for those who use the service - both guests and hosts - it can be life changing!
