The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
After 911, I lost everything, all my life savings gone in the stock market. Over a million dollars. I was going into forrclousure on my properties. I did have my house rented out to some people who decided not to pay rent. It took me 8 months to get them out and $10,000 in court fees and fees to the tenant. Then I rented the house out again after fixing it all up to some people who seemed responsible. They paid the rent on time for a few years and then one of the people moved out. The other person stopped paying rent and it took me a year and a half to get him out. Turned out he was doing a marijuanna grow operation in the downstairs. He was bypassing the electrical company as well. I had the electrical company and the police come and get him out. I spent two years fixing the place back up and have still not completely fixed up all the damage that was done. I did manage to finally furnish it and get it into Airbnb, so I can have some income off of the place. It bring in money to the city from tourism, it gives me some income on a property I will NEVER EVER rent out to a permanent renter again. Even if Airbnb stops, I would leave the house empty before i would have any long term renters come in and trash it again.
