My wife and I are retired and living on pension accounts that we saved. We live on 5 acres in the Sierra Nevada foothills and have a small guest house on our property. Since it was sitting empty most of the time we decided to list it with airbnb to generate some additional income so we could afford to travel more. We have had over 30 guests come to stay with us. As we live in a rural area, there are not many options for people to stay in our area other than a few campgrounds. Most of these people would not have come to this area to visit if there were not affordable places like ours to stay. We have met many wonderful people from other areas. Most of them go out to eat in the nearby restaurants and generally help the local economy. When my wife and I travel, we always try to use airbnb as we much prefer the experience to staying in hotels.
