I stayed at Air B&Bs during my trip through the southwest of the United States last winter. Firstly, the option for less expensive accommodation made it possible for me to take the trip in the first place, and get to know a unique region of my country. Secondly, I got to know it through the eyes of my countrymen. This was so special as a woman traveling alone- to be able to meet people in such a secure and safe way was amazing. I noticed that my hosts all had a genuine hospitality style and many times I thought- these are the Americans that everyone in the world should meet if they want to know our country. I became a host after returning home because it is a huge help economically. I also want to be a part of this culture of hospitality and cultural sharing. Air B&B does a brilliant job of vetting participants, and of all the people I stayed with and hosted- I have never heard of a bad incident. It makes me realize that despite the news media, the majority of people in the world are pretty decent.
