The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
We are a retired couple living in a town adjacent to San Francisco. We rent out a room or two in our otherwise empty nest through Airbnb. We enjoy meeting and getting to know people from all over the world. I think there is a benefit in that this type of sharing promotes understanding and friendship and reinforces the notion that we are all the same, and that people are basically good. We also like the extra income that is generated, as we are on a fixed income. We believe that sharing is good for the planet and uses resources that would otherwise go to waste. In our country with it's emphasis on consumption, putting these resources to use is an important way to ease the burden on the planet. Please don't pass any laws that would prohibit this type of in home business.
