The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
The sharing economy is a way for all of us to share our talents, treasures and wisdom so that all of us can lead decent and happy lives. Airbnb represents a way for those of us who own homes to share, quite possibly our most valuable asset, with others and also earn money to pay increasing costs of living, most specifically taxes that continue to eat away at our income and future retirement earnings. The sharing economy also enables my husband and me to learn new skills, in this case hosting airbnb guests and more about the hospitality industry. Without having a lot of extra capital to invest in the marketing and administrative aspects of owning a bed and breakfast, which we always dreamed of doing, we are now able to do it, leveraging the airbnb services. We trust people and have confidence in humanity. We hope that the USA will continue to be a role model for peace, prosperity for ALL, and support all aspects of the sharing economy as in the end we are all in this journey together. With my peace and gratitude, Gretchen Lott and Joseph Romano
