The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
My husband and I own a one family home with 3 bedrooms. We have three girls living abroad studying in Italy, so the house is always empty and lonely. My husband and I have a decent job, which thanks God we can manage to pay all the bills that we have during the month. But having three girls living overseas, we really struggle a little bit to meet everything. So one day I wanted to see if I could at least share one of the three rooms with travelers, my house is near a NYC airport so I said to myself that maybe it could help travelers pay less money but still have a comfy bed and a nice home in NYC. So we decided to post our room via Airbnb. And I think it was the best thing that we could ever done. With Airbnb, we feel very secure!!! They have this chat line that we can talk and see pictures, profile this way we get to know our guests. They also have a tool that they check the ID everybody before coming to our place. They have an emergency line just in case something goes wrong with guests/hosts, luckily so far for us is been great, we have been having such a lovely guests that with some of them we even became friends!!! We realized that with Airbnb, we managed to have a little extra money to send to our daughters in Italy, they have this golden opportunity of doing this wonderful experience of studying overseas, and plus we have the chance of meeting such different people, so far we have been having to our home: German, Chinese, French, Australian, Japanese, Venezuelan, Ecuador. Is been very exciting and fun. We love Airbnb it was a very good idea. Thank you very much to everybody and who ever had the idea of Airbnb, which was genius!!! Best regards, Mrs. Alletto
