I have used airbnb personally for business and for pleasure all over the country and in Europe, I have never had a bad experience as a single woman I feel strongly that it is even safer than using a Hotel for travel, there are check points and assurances through out the entire process. I recently became an Airbnb Host, it has saved my home and given me the means to support myself during my unemployment, without Airbnb I certainly would have to rent out my home and move out or put it up for sale. With Airbnb I not only have the opportunity to keep my home I have the chance to share it with some very lovely people as well! Airbnb has done their homework and have some of the best support for host that I have ever seen I feel very safe in the systems they have put in place and I really enjoy being part of the sharing economy. This has been and will continue to be my first choice for travel and certainly to host for as long as I can.
