The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
The sharing economy is vital to my family's well being and AIr BNB in particular has made it possible for our middle class family to afford to send our daughter away to college. While she is away and we have to pay room and board charges for her, we are able to use Air BNB and rent out her temporarily empty room to offset the cost. Without Air BNB, we would not be able to afford to have her go to a university and live on campus. While we were a bit leery of strangers staying in our home at first, we have found that home sharing has more that financial benefits for us. We have been introduced to many new people and cultures and have made some new friends. In addition, these visitors tell us that without Air BNB, they may not have taken the trip to Temecula because it would have been too expensive. They also tell us the money they save in lodging expense i that they use to spend while in town, taking wine tours, eating out and shopping. Some of them are even considering relocating to Temecula and we have introduced them to a realtor friend of ours. Air BNB has been good for my family's economy as well as Temecula's.
