The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
To the workshop: I am an Airbnb host and traveler, and would like to advocate for Airbnb and similar sharing economy platforms. In my small town, hotel space is limited, so the hosts here provide a necessary service. We also benefit by making extra income to help cover our mortgages and upkeep on our properties. Our community benefits because the visitors spend money in town. The social and community aspect is difficult to quantify, but hosting on Airbnb has improved my quality of life -- both because of additional income, and because of the enriching experience of meeting my guests. I feel safe hosting my property because of the ID verification and review process Airbnb has in place. I would ask that the FTC regulatory framework continue to allow and support and encourage sharing economy platforms. Thank you.
