The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
I became a full time host in January of 2015 - so far, out of 141 days, I have been booked 99 nights, resulting in over 200 people staying over since most came as couples. Prior to this experience, being the introvert that I am, I never would have thought I would openly welcome strangers into my home, let alone talk to them about my personal life, but I can honestly say that Airbnb has not only made me a better person but I have made some great friends through it. I now only travel through Airbnb because the idea of meeting new people absolutely excites me! I have had people from China, Ukraine, Singapore, Canada, Netherlands and various American cities stay with me, and I cannot think of one occasion where I doubted the person or felt unsafe with them in my home. I make sure that every person I accept has verifications on their profile, alongside of a profile picture, so that I can have peace of mind. Furthermore since I am still in the early stages of my career, I have been able to add an extra $6000 to my income in the past 5 months with Airbnb, which has helped tremendously with paying for my Master's degree. Overall this has been the best thing that I have taken a chance on, and I am constantly trying to improve the experience for my guests so that I can continue having this side business flourish.
