The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
My step daughter came to visit me and helped set me up on Airbnb because I had lost my job in 2012 and was not able to pay my mortgage. I am and have been a single mother that works hard and owns a home. I didn't have to send my house back to the bank, nor get support from the gov because I was able to rent rooms out to make ends meet. Airbnb helped pay the mortgage while I found work and I didn't have to file BK or loose my house. Airbnb's trust and safety and messaging tools that help me screen my visitors. Airbnb is an important option for middle class families in America to earn extra money on our own so we don't have to depend on food stamps, gov help. My Airbnb listings generate sustainable, local economic activity that supports the small businesses in communities across the country. All the restaurants benifit, the grocery stores and people can visit from other countries to spend they money on products and entertainment. I know work for GE and when I travel, they pay my expenses and I love the point system however when I travel personally, I need to save money, so airbnb offers me financial options. There are always going to be some abusers to anything, however over all, airbnb has saved my home and helped me plan for my retirement and without the help of anyone. This is also a lot of work and I loose my privacy, however I didn't loose my home and I can share with the many wonderful people that are trying to get by, travel, see the world and travel to the US. I can't tell you how lucky I am to have this service help me stay in my home and put my son through college. Pleased see attached. Thanks Carrie Becks [REDACTED]
