The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
I have been involved with Airbnb for almost two years. Prior to renting my place out on a short term basis, I was in debt due to some major repairs to some of my rental properties and the increase of my primary mortgage of $1,000. I can now say, I am above water, meeting all of my debt responsibilities and can finally breathe. In addition, it has become such a business for me that I have hired a full time maid, and check-in person who greets my guests and gets them settled in. I also have someone who checks my mail, starts my car and waters plants. All of whom are paid. All of my guests have patronized the local restaurants, theme parks and all forms of entertainment in the Los Angeles area during their visit. I am so thankful for this opportunity, for some many reasons. It has been a life changer for me. I live out of California 6 months of the year and during this time, my condo has been rented out continuously by fantastic guests from all over the world. Respectfully, Shelley Myer
