I use what you refer to as the "sharing economy" in many ways every day on both sides and it helps me balance my finances, my travel needs and more. The reality is I would be doing this either way, but websites like AirBnb, couchsurfing and private facebook groups (for examples) help me do it safer and more reliably. I have ample opportunities to engage with people before making a decision as to whether it makes sense or not and are safe, and if something does go wrong (nothing ever has) there is a measure of protection through insurance and verified identities that come with many of these services. I hope that this is one place where you can either let well enough alone or use policy to improve things, because the reality is that it's working just fine right now without additional policy.
