The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
As a resident of Manhattan living in fear of being priced off the island every year, I strongly believe that AirBnb and related services could have a potentially calamitous effect on the community. We cannot let landlords and others stand to gain from using empty apartments as what are essentially hotels. Residential zones are zoned as such for a reason, and given that virtually all major sports stadiums are publicly financed, hotel tax is an essential source of local income that should never be circumvented. KEEP RESIDENCES AS RESIDENCES, NOT HOTELS. DISALLOW THE OPERATIONS OF AIRBNB AND ILLEGAL HOTELS. KEEP RENT AFFORDABLE TO TENANTS.
