Regardless of how it is marketed, Uber operates like an on demand taxi/limousine service and should be regulated accordingly. It is one thing to operate a ride sharing service ala carpooling or van-pooling, it is quite different when full-time dedicated drivers are waiting to pick up fares. If state or federal laws are amended to allow for the type of business Uber is operating, so be it. Currently, there are too many instances where Uber operates in violation of existing rules, or simply skirts around them through an overly literal translation of the written law. Innovation done well is good for consumers, businesses, and the economy at large. Innovation that puts consumers at risk and flagrantly violates the rules upstanding businesses must obey is illegal and should be dealt with accordingly.
