This consent agreement should be rejected and the FTC should impose a substantial fine on Snapchat. Even if the proposed consent agreement results in Snapchat complying with the terms of the agreement, this weak consent agreementit does nothing to deter future bad behavior by Snapchat or by other companies. Instead of approving this consent agreement, the FTC should impose a fine sufficient to discourage this sort of behavior in the future. Unfortunately, the proposed consent agreement sends a strong and clear message that companies can go ahead and say or do whatever they want to do, because even if they get caught, the repercussions will be minimal. It's time to get serious about corporate bad behavior and impose penalties that 1) actually punish the wrong-doer and 2) discourage other companies from engaging in similar behavior. This consent agreement neither punishes Snapchat nor discourages any other company from trying something similar. This consent agreement should be rejected and and Snapchat should be fined enough to deter it and other companies from engaging in similar behavior in the future.
