16 CFR Part 306; Automotive Fuel Ratings, Certification and Posting; Project No. R811005
I am a long-time motorcyclist (52+ years), and am writing to respond to the proposed rule change and overriding issue of ethanol-blended gasoline as a fuel for internal combustion engines. I have had several small gas engines damaged by ethanol-based fuels. In my considered view, the ONLY acceptable option would be to require U.S. gasoline stations to sell BOTH ethanol-laced gasoline as well as ethanol-free gasoline. No amount of "badge engineering" on the pumps will correct the essential problem, which is that ethanol-based fuel should only be used in engines designed to use it, and ethanol-free fuel should be used in other -- mainly smaller -- engines. Thank you for considering my views.
