Proposed Consent Agreement In the Matter of Service Corporation International and Stewart Enterprises, Inc.; File No. 131-0163
As an economist with over 30 years of experience in the private and public sectors, I am convinced that the FTC's Proposed Consent Agreement In the Matter of Service Corporation International and Stewart is insufficient to insure competition in Jewish funeral services in Montgomery County, MD. The appropriate decision would be to require SCI to divest of Hines Rinaldi, which has been a strong competitor serving the Jewish community for the past 11 years thru its contract with the Jewish Funeral Practices Committee. If SCI is allowed to own both Danzansky and Hines Rinaldi, there will be no effective competition in the Jewish funeral services market. Please reconsider the proposed consent agreement. Thank you for your attention.
