Business Opportunity Rule
I am OPPOSED to the FTC's proposed Business Opportunity Rule (R511993) . I have been in the direct sales industry fo 20 years. By providing quality products direct to customers I make a good living for myself, and help others. This experience has improved my personal skills tremendously. The 7 day waiting period puts our industry in a unfair negative light and creates record keeping problems and other unnecessary delays. The Litigation Reporting is unfair that it does not distinguish between winning and losing lawsuits, and again casts a negative light on this industry specifically. As for references, it is impractical to provide list of 10 nearest distributors, and there are privacy issues due to ID theft and safety. The FTC may have good intentions, but this is throwing out the baby with the bath water. In any industry, there are always fraudulent groups out there, but the FTC's proposed rule would unfairly target legitimate direct selling businesses. The rule, as presently drafted could greatly hinder or even ruin my independent USANA Health Sciences business-a successful small business to which I have dedicated a lot of time and energy to build. I understand and appreciate the FTC's responsibility to protect the public from "unfair and deceptive acts or practices," but I believe the rule goes too far in trying to protect the public by proposing certain unnecessary and burdensome requirements that will make it very difficult if not impossible for me to sell USANA products.
