FTC Reminds Telemarketers to Renew Subscriptions to National Do Not Call Registry: The new fee structure for purchasing the National Do Not Call Registry takes effect September 1, 2004. Subscription account numbers (SANs) for telemarketers are good for 12 months. Telemarketers who purchased the Registry on or after September 2, 2003, will have to renew their subscription at the end of their 12-month subscription period. Telemarketers may renew beginning September 1, and will be able to renew even after their subscription expires. The Do Not Call Web site for telemarketers, www.telemarketing.donotcall.gov, will inform them when their SAN expires and will give them the option and instructions to renew.

The Commission’s revised fee structure requires entities to pay $40 per area code, with a maximum fee of $11,000 for any entity accessing 280 area codes or more. Entities will be able to access the first five area codes of data at no cost, and “exempt” entities – political organizations, charities, and survey companies – may access the Registry free of charge.
