WHAT: An increasing number of complaints about mystery charges on consumer telephone bills are piling up. Whether it's a one-time charge for a call to a dating service or a recurring monthly charge for a paging service a consumer didn't order, consumers report that these charges are being "crammed" onto their telephone bills. The Federal Trade Commission has taken an active role in combating this fraud and will announce enforcement actions designed to stop the crammers.
