The Federal Trade Commission, the American Society of Clinical Nutrition, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will host a public conference to examine issues arising from the increased prevalence of overweight persons in the United States and what consumers stand to gain and lose from various means of weight reduction. The two-day conference at the FTC begins on Thursday, October 16, at 8:30 a.m. Participants at the conference will consider such topics as what motivates consumers to lose weight, what information they need to evaluate products and programs, and the means by which necessary information can be conveyed to consumers.
