Consent agreements given final approval: Following a public comment period, the Commission has made final a consent agreement with the following entity. The Commission action makes the orders binding on the respondent.

  • Benckiser Consumer Products, Inc., of Danbury, Connecticut, settling charges that it made false and misleading “cause-related marketing” claims for its “EarthRite” line of household cleaning products. The order prohibits Benckiser from misrepresenting that a portion of the revenue from the sale of any household cleaning product is donated to any organization. If Benckiser chooses to represent that it donates some portion of revenue to an organization, the order requires Benckiser to clearly and prominently disclose the method of determining the amount of the donation. (See March 6, 1996 news release for more detail about the consent order; Docket No. C-3659; Commission vote on May 20 was 5-0.) Staff contact is Thomas B. Carter or James R. Golder, Dallas Regional Office, 214/767-5503.
