FTC SENDS REFUNDS TO VICTIMS OF A TECH SUPPORT SCAM

The FTC is sending a third round of payments to victims of a tech support scam.

The FTC sued Vast Tech Support, LLC and OMG Tech Help, LLC. According to the lawsuit, these companies used free security scanning software trials to trick people into thinking there were problems with their computers and pressure them into buying tech support products and services.

The FTC sent the first round of payments in October 2020 and the second round of payments in August 2021. These distributions resulted in $6.8 million in refunds. Because there is still money in the fund, the agency is sending an additional $30 to 5,045 people who accepted their previous payments and paid more than $539.98 to the defendants.

If you get a check, please cash it in 90 days.
