FTC sends second round of checks to people who paid for student loan debt relief

The FTC is mailing a second round of checks to 11,765 people who paid Strategic Student Solutions for student loan debt relief and credit repair. According to the FTC, Strategic Student Solutions (also doing business under other names) charged people illegal upfront fees and falsely promised to:

  • reduce their student loan debt or monthly payments by enrolling them in student loan forgiveness or other programs
  • apply their monthly payments to their student loans, and
  • improve their credit scores and histories.

The first round of checks mailed in March 2020 and resulted in more than $2.5 million in refunds. Because there is still money in the fund, the FTC is sending a second round of checks totaling $502,859 to people who cashed their first check.

If you get a check, please cash it within 90 days.
