FTC SENDS CHECKS TO BUSINESS OWNERS WHO PAID FOR LABOR LAW POSTERS
The FTC is sending a second round of checks to business owners who were victims of a deceptive scheme that sold labor law posters. Recipients will get an additional $43.20 each, bringing their total recovery amount to $84.
According to the FTC, the Florida Office of the Attorney General, and the Texas Office of the Attorney General, Corporate Compliance Services sent mailers that looked like invoices from government agencies billing businesses $84 for posters. To convince businesses that the invoices must be paid, they cited federal statutes and warned “Failure to comply with posting regulations can lead to fines of up to $17,000.”
The first round of checks mailed in July 2020. Because there is still money in the fund, the FTC is mailing an additional 12,426 checks totaling more than $537,000.
If you get a check, please cash it within 60 days.
