FTC SENDS REFUNDS TO VICTIMS OF A TECH SUPPORT SCAM
The Federal Trade Commission is sending a second round of payments to victims of a tech support scam.
According to the FTC, Vast Tech Support, LLC and OMG Tech Help, LLC used free security scanning software trials to trick people into thinking there were problems with their computers and then pressured them into buying tech support products and services.
The FTC first sent refunds in October 2020. Because there is still money in the fund, the agency is sending an additional 43,025 PayPal payments and 5,112 checks totaling more than $4.2 million to people who accepted their first payments.
If you receive a check, you have 90 days to cash it.
If you receive a PayPal payment, you have 30 days to accept the payment.
