FTC mails refunds to victims of mortgage relief scam
The FTC is mailing a third and final round of checks to victims of a mortgage relief scheme. According to the FTC, Prime Legal Plans, LLC and its affiliates made false promises that they could help people save their homes from foreclosure or lower their mortgage payments.
The first round of checks was mailed in March 2014. A second round of checks was mailed in October 2015. In this final round, the FTC is mailing an additional 4,221 checks totaling more than $200,350. This mailing brings the total amount the FTC refunded to people who lost money to the scheme to $3.96 million. Consumers who cash all three checks will receive an average of $852.
