NetSpend Refunds For Affected Customers
NetSpend Corporation has agreed to pay $53 million to provide refunds and settle FTC charges related to NetSpend debit cards. According to the FTC’s complaint, many people couldn’t access money deposited to their NetSpend account, either because NetSpend denied or delayed activation of the card or because NetSpend blocked them from using it.
Under the settlement, people are eligible for a refund if they got a NetSpend card between January 1, 2010 and August 31, 2016 and couldn’t activate it. NetSpend was required to provide notice by email or mail to eligible people by June 9, 2017. People who got a notice had until October 7, 2017 to respond and request a refund from NetSpend.
If you did not receive a notice but believe you are eligible for a refund because you couldn’t activate a NetSpend card that you got between January 1, 2010 and August 31, 2016, please contact the FTC by calling 1-888-684-4858, or by sending an email to NetSpend@ftc.gov
