FTC mails checks to victims of tech support scam
The FTC is mailing a second round of checks to victims of a tech support scam that tricked people into believing their computers were infected with viruses and malware to convince them to buy tech support services. In May 2017, the FTC and the state of Florida announced settlements with the operators of the tech support scam: Big Dog Solutions, LLC, also doing business as Help Desk National and Help Desk Global, and related defendants.
The first round of checks were mailed in January of 2018. Because money still remains in the fund, the FTC is mailing and additional 3,240 checks totaling over $70,000.
