FTC SENDS REFUNDS TO HOMEOWNERS AFTER A DEBT RELIEF SCAM
The FTC is mailing a third round of checks to victims of a mortgage and debt relief scheme. According to the FTC, Expense Management America charged distressed homeowners up to $750 per month, but did little or nothing to save their homes from foreclosure.
The first round of checks was mailed in April 2016, and the second round was mailed in November 2017. Because money still remains in the fund, the FTC is mailing an additional 982 checks totaling more than $145,000. Consumers who cash all three checks will get approximately 78% of their total loss back.
