FTC sends another round of checks to small businesses
The FTC is mailing another round of checks to small businesses who paid DOTAuthority.com, and its affiliated companies, service fees for commercial vehicle registrations. According to the FTC, DOTAuthority.com used misleading messages that implied they were affiliated with the U.S. Department of Transportation or another government agency, tricked businesses into using their commercial vehicle registration services, and failed to adequately disclose the fees for these services.
The first round of checks was mailed in October 2018, and the second round was mailed in August 2019. Because money still remains in the fund, the FTC is mailing an additional 10,683 checks totaling more than $145,000.
