REFUNDS FOR PEOPLE WHO LOST MONEY TO A MORTGAGE MODIFICATION SCHEME
The FTC is mailing refund checks to people who paid large upfront fees for mortgage modifications. According to the FTC, The Debt Advocacy Center claimed a 90 percent success rate and promised customers they would get refunds if the loan modifications didn't come through. Despite these claims, the company refused to return payments to people who didn't get the loan modifications and told them the fee was for advice and educational materials only.
If you get a check, you have until February 29, 2016, to cash it. If you have questions about the case, you can call the hotline at 1-844-535-0116.
