FTC Mails Checks to Victims of Alleged Payday Loan Scheme
The FTC is mailing 72,836 checks totaling more than $2.9 million to people who lost money to an alleged payday loan scheme. According to the FTC’s lawsuit, CWB Services and related defendants created fake payday loan agreements and then debited finance fees from people’s bank accounts without their permission. The FTC also alleged that—even in cases where people actually applied for the payday loans—the defendants charged more than they said they would.
