FTC SENDS CHECKS TO BUSINESS OWNERS WHO PAID FOR LABOR LAW POSTERS
The FTC is sending 26,817 checks totaling more than $1 million to business owners who were victims of a deceptive scheme that sold labor law posters. Recipients will get $40.80 each.
According to the FTC, the Florida Office of the Attorney General, and the Texas Office of the Attorney General, Corporate Compliance Services sent mailers that looked like invoices from government agencies and billing businesses $84 for posters. To convince businesses that the invoices must be paid, they cited federal statutes and warned “Failure to comply with posting regulations can lead to fines of up to $17,000.”
