FTC sends emails to ABCmouse users who were charged for automatic renewals
The FTC is sending more than 200,000 email notices to people who will soon receive a refund via PayPal. These refunds are the result of a settlement between the FTC and Age of Learning, Inc., the company responsible for the children's learning program ABCmouse.
According to the FTC, when users signed up for ABCmouse, the company did not make it clear that certain memberships would renew automatically until canceled. The FTC alleged that the company charged users for membership renewals without their consent and made it difficult for users to cancel their memberships, which prevented them from avoiding additional charges.
If you received an email from the FTC regarding ABCmouse refunds, you don't need to do anything right now.
The FTC plans to issue all refunds by PayPal on April 19, 2021. Once the payments are issued, you will receive an email from PayPal about your refund.
