Commerce Protected by Successful FTC
Merger Challenges Has Grown Nearly Tenfold Since 1996*

The dollar volume of commerce in the markets protected by our challenges has increased from an estimated $2.5 billion in 1993 to $24.0 billion in 1996. If our merger challenges prevented price increases in just 1 percent, these challenges saved consumers $240 million in 1996, exceeding the agency’s entire budget for all missions.
