Honorable Civil Servants, Ladies & Gentleman,

Personal Privacy is very important to me and paramount to the Private Investigative industry, but have we all lost sight of the fact that every day there are thousands of incidents of fraud and crime in this country? I, as well of thousands of other professional investigators provide a necessary and vital role to prevent crime, the preservation of justice and the ability for the less fortunate to have their fair day in court.

If you close our access to yet another IMPORTANT tool, then all I can say is who the heck is making our laws? Set the record straight, DO NOT BLOCK our access to the necessary information we need to fight crime, level the playing field and/or the tools to uncover fraud and malfeasance.

Private Investigators as a whole are good people. This movement to deny us the "tools of the trade" is downright criminal. If credit headers are taken away, then what are we supposed to replace our means to locate judgment debtors, locate witnesses, uncover fraudulent SSN use, uncover identity fraud, insurance fraud, welfare fraud, loan fraud, financial fraud, deadbeat parents, and many other uses these headers provide? Meanwhile closing the credit headers will put thousands of PIs out of work and on this nation's dole. Closing our access to credit headers will destroy our livelihood. I have children to feed and bills to pay too.

"The land of the free" is taking on a new and dangerous meaning. Use commonsense and do not be myopic, our industry saves consumers and business billions of dollars every year. We are responsible for saving lives, locating loss loved ones, locating missing children, locating/recovering fugitives and criminals, and on the other hand we save innocent people from going to jail. We serve every court in the land with service of process, we make contributions to numerous to mention.

Do not let the few incidents of wrongdoing or our arch enemy, Hollywood's imaginary portrayal of our industry, sway your thinking. We need credit header information just like law enforcement does. In fact we need MANDATORY access to DMV records too and many other records. People lie, cheat, steal, and commit violent crimes at an alarming rate. This behavior continues to happen, it will continue to happen and it will increase one million fold if you shut us down.

Many people, consumers, businesses, government agencies, the FBI, law enforcement agencies and countless other bureaucracies call upon us for our expertise and assistance. Many times when law enforcement is either disinterested or to busy, we are sought after for redress. The fact is, we are a necessary being and rules need to be implemented that allow us regulated access to INFORMATION so that we can do our jobs, serve our clients' and society. I do not mind being held ACCOUNTABLE for my actions. I am a responsible business man and more importantly a professional Private Investigator. I implore you to listen to us and come to the conclusion that Private Investigators need information.

Respectfully submitted,

Bernard Cane
