Request for Comments and Announcement of Workshop on Pet Medications Issues, Project No. P121201

I have 30 years of experience with veterinary medicine. I just wanted to express my concern about the Pet Medications Issues. Today I had a relief human pharmacist try to over ride my prescription for Glargine insulin for a feline patient of mine. The pet owner was using a manufacturer's coupon. What experience does he have with feline diabetes treatment NONE! I do not tell a human pharmacist how to prescribe for a human's drug. Why is the reverse happening. As you can see I already write or call prescriptions in for my pet owners with no help from a new law. I work with certain pharmacists I know and trust not to screw up the prescription or endanger my patient's life. Second, The FTC (via legislation) wants me to be liable for the quality and use of the prescribed drug but I have no control over where the prescription, you are intending on forcing me to write every time I prescribe a drug, is filled. I am sincere in wondering if some regulators in Washington DC have lost their minds Third, the force behind this Bill is corporate profit be it from Online Pharmacies or Big Box retail stores that care about the a pet's welfare about as much as Washington cares about over regulation of our veterinary profession. Fourth if the medication revenue goes down in a veterinary practice it will drive up service prices to cover overhead expenses and all the other expenses like taxes that keep going up every year. Pets will then not get the basic care they need yearly because of the increasing inflexible costs to provide these services. Thank you for your time. Sincerely Dr Gaskin.
