Request for Comments and Announcement of Workshop on Pet Medications Issues, Project No. P121201

MY CONCERN IS THE POTENTIAL FOR DRUG DIVERSION IF THE CLIENT ASKS ME TO PROVIDE THE MEDICINE FOR THEIR PET. AND I AM ALSO REQUIRED TO HAND THEM A WRITTEN PRESCRIPTION FOR THE SAME MEDICINE. EXAMPLE: THEIR DOG NEEDS IMMEDIATE RELIEF OF PAIN FOR A HERNIATED DISK IN ITS BACK. I HAND THE OWNER THE MEDICINE. BUT I ALSO HAVE TO WRITE A PRESCRIPTION FOR THE SAME PAIN MEDICINE. SO THE OWNER GOES TO A HUMAN PHARMACY AND FILLS THE PRESCRIPTION I HAVE WRITTEN FOR PAIN MEDICINE. I WORRY THAT THE PAIN MEDICINE WILL BE DIVERTED FOR HUMAN USE. HOW WILL YOUR REQUIREMENT THAT I MUST ALSO PROVIDE A WRITTEN PRESCRIPTION, FOR THE SAME MEDICINE THAT I AM DISPENSING,NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE DRUG DIVERSION PROBLEM IN THIS COUNTRY
