To whom it may concern It is in my opinion as a small practice veterinarian that the need for federal regulation on the matter of prescriptions is unnecessary and wasteful. As any veterinarian in good standing, I allow my clients to have a copy of their prescriptions and have them shop for another pharmacy. Many take this option if they are on a limited budget, but most still choose to use our pharmacy for the convenience. By forcing veterinarians to inform clients of other possible pharmacies and filling prescriptions for every drug it can lead to customer dissatisfaction in the amount of wait time at the office that could be used for other more beneficial endeavors. So my opinion is similar to the AVMA stance that there is currently no problem with the matter of clients receiving prescriptions, and therefore is not needed to be corrected by federal regulation. The increase of such regulation will only be detrimental to the small practice as we spend more time and resources on such matters when previously a person need only to ask for the prescription.
