I understand the request by some to make writing a script manditory but that seems redundent and not cost effective for the client. Most scripts these days are called in to pharmacies. It's safer than giving out paper scripts which can be altered and copied. From a veterinarian point of view, it's faster, more cost effective and the client enjoys that the pharmacy verifies the product is in white they are still there at the counter. Veterinarians enjoy that they no longer need to carry drugs that will expire and cost them money. The finances and client satisfaction have already driven the use of retail pharmacies by veterinary clinics Veterinarians that don't use both online and local retail pharmacies are risking driving away paying clients. In this economy competition for paying clients is very strong. Anthything you can do to give that client the perception that you are trying to do right by them goes a long way. The phoned in scripts are one very effective method and much more effective than a written script. I can appreciate the desire to make that offer manditory but in an increasingly online society, written paper scripts are both time consuming and a waste of dollars. The only people that will benefit from a written script are the paper industry and those printing script. We already recommend online pharmacies and local pharmacies as part of cost saving measures so that they have funds for other procedures like annual blood work and other possible life saving measures. Please don't place a burden on the veterinarians that doesn't make sense and doesn't make savings for the client. Don't give us one more example of rules and legislation that were written to appease some lobbyist, not for the benefit of all.
