I strongly oppose HR1406. I am the owner of an 8 Dr. practice. My collegues and I have seen countless mistakes when medication is filled at the Costcos and Walmarts of the world. Some have been sold without original packaging, others have been removed from foil wrapping rendering all but the original tablet worthless due to light exposure, some have been obtained from foreign countrys. Even the prescription labels have been incorrect. For example the place they second market purchased it from has been on the label rather than the manufacturer of the medication. Rightfully so, manufacturers will not stand behind product that has been purchased through secondary channels. On line pharmacies are a nightmare. It's impossible to keep up with who is licensed in what state and if their products are purcased legitimately or through the secondary market. This bill is a mistake. It encourages clients to purchase elsewhere with the prescription. Currently if a client wants an RX we write one but to require we do so for every patient suggests to the client that it is fine go purchase product at pharmacys. Clients choosing to do so are unlikely to be informed about the risks I mentioned. Before a bill like this is put into effect, pharmacists need to be trained specifically in veterinary pharmacology. A patient is safer and better served by their veterinarian. Please vote against HR1406.
