I am opposed to requiring veterinarians to write a prescription for all medications dispensed regardless of whether the owners get the medications at the veterinary hospital or an outside pharmacy. Not only will this create redundancy and confusion for the owners but it will make things more complicated AND it puts the safety of companion animals in the hands of HUMAN pharmacists. Many pharmacists do NOT have a veterinary pharmacy education. Also it takes away business and income from SMALL BUSINESS (the veterinary hospitals) to BIG BUSINESS monopolies like Walmart. Aren't they already making enough Not to mention that they are selling heartworm prevention but owners do NOT get the medical education of WHY this is IMPORTANT for their pet's safety. When owners come into our hospital for medications it isn't just to sell medication, we EDUCATE our clients as well. You will be damaging the patient, client, doctor relationship, damaging SMALL businesses, and risking the safety of our companion animals just so BIG business can make more money.
