Request for Comments and Announcement of Workshop on Pet Medications Issues, Project No. P121201

Pet owners are very aware of the many options already available to them for purchasing their pet's medications. The need for written prescriptions and catalogs sales such as Drs. Fosters & Smith were replaced years ago by fascimile, internet, and 1-800 telephone numbers making purchasing medications for pet owners far quicker and more efficient than written prescription and snail mail. Huge national television campaigns and other well organized media and on-line advertising campaigns keep pet owners well aware of their many alternatives. The need for written prescriptions is almost obsolete. To require veterinarians to write each prescription and clients to wait in the office for the completion of this task wastes the valuble time of pet owners and their families. Unfortunately bills such as HR 1406 are really a clever attempt by large corporations such as Wal-mart to divert sales from on-line pharmacies to their enormous brick and mortar facilities. By pretending to help pet owners, Wal-mart really turns the pet owner into a victim wasting both the time and money of these families.
