When my dog had knee surgery he needed prescription medication that I could have gotten at Target pharmacy for half the price. The Surgical Vet's office would not give me a written prescription, instead forcing me to purchase from them. The Surgical Veterinarian told me their policy is not to give written prescriptions and charge more for the medicine in order to keep the costs of their services down. I was kind of surprised she admitted that. I called our regular Vet's office and they were going to give me a written prescription but their cost was the same as Target so I purchased from them. I'm sure most people would have just paid the extra money instead of investigating alternatives. We also get written prescriptions for maintenance medication (heartworm and flea/tick) and order on line because that is less costly.
