I concur with the serious concerns of the AVMA regarding the regulatory burdens that HR 1406 would create for my privately owned veterinary practice. I concur with the AVMA that there is no indication or need for this legislation. HR1406 will cause undue regulatory and administrative burdens on my veterinary practice. It is burdensome and unnecessary to require a written prescription be provided, as well as a written notification that the prescription may be filled elsewhere, regardless of whether or not the client is having the prescription filled by us. The provision requiring verification of prescriptions, regardless of whether the pharmacy is accredited or licensed, places me as the prescribing veterinarian at both a legal and ethical risk. At the same time, it puts consumers at risk. State pharmacy and veterinary practice laws are in place and are followed in detail by veterinarians, HR 1406 would be redundant. Clients already have the flexibility to fill a prescription at their veterinary clinic or off-site at a pharmacy of their choice. It only makes good business sense to follow a client s right to choose where they have their prescription filled, anger the client and they don t return. Do not pass this bill.
