Request for Comments and Announcement of Workshop on Pet Medications Issues, Project No. P121201

This is a transparent attempt by large pharmacies to place unmanageable burdens on small veterinary businesses in an effort to divert business to the large pharmacies. I would ask just what value the human trained pharmacies might add to a person needing medicines for a variety of species which the pharmacies know nothing about. They know nothing of dosing, drug interactions, different tolerances for different species or methods of administering the drugs. This legislation would add a huge and unnecessary administrative burden and a large cost to small businesses and yet provide no benefits to the animals or their owners. People currently have access and a choice of where to obtain their medicines: from a veterinarian who adds value and knowledge regarding interactions, side effects, methods of administration and more, on line pharmacies and local pharmacies-both large & small. Finally, the wording where all liability is shifted to the veterinarian, along with the time and administrative burden while all profit is shifted to Wal Mart is absurd. There is no place for this legislation, no need and no benefit to the people or their pets.
