Request for Comments and Announcement of Workshop on Pet Medications Issues, Project No. P121201

I would like to express my displeasure with the bill sponsored by Wal-Mart in Congress (and being considered by the FTC requiring vets to advise pet owners that they can purchase medications through other sources. This is another example of Wal-Mart's greed and enthusiasm to put small business owners out of business. I already under-price my services in medicine to enable pet owners to afford procedures for their pets. I rely on the (very) small profit I make on medication sales to sustain my business which has been especially hit hard by the economy (decline of almost 70%). Wal-Mart has prospered in these economic times because of their financial influence in politics and their financial BULLYING of small business owners into bankruptcy. Allowing this legislation forward will destroy already suffering veterinary practices. We small business owners are the backbone of this economy and forcing us to "recommend" and "refer" our customers and clients to our competitors- the behemoths (Wal-Mart, Target, Costco) will be the nail in the coffin of our practice. My clients already know about alternatives and utilize online pharmacies. Discouraging them from purchasing from me is anti-competitive for small business owners. You are backing the Goliath in the room by pursuing this avenue.
